Where it hangs from

We read every skirt from the waistband down and every cardigan from the shoulders down. It is the order we check, list and fit in.

  1. Woman in a white shirt and brown midi skirt

    Waistband first

Set an inch too high, or buckled at the back, a waistband tilts the hem and pulls the side seam toward the front.

  2. Shoulders first

A shoulder line that sits inboard or slides off the edge binds the sleeve and opens the neckline. No button fixes that.

  3. Knit sweater hanging on a hook in a room

    Measured flat

Each sample is laid on the table: waist across the band, or shoulder width seam to seam, then the lengths, listed in that order, in inches.

  4. Checked before it goes live

Supplier photos are compared with the sample for color and closure. Returns go back on the rail only unworn, tags attached.

A day in one layer

Worn over a midi, the cardigan stops at or just above the waistband, so each piece keeps its own line.

Cool morning

Buttoned over a skirt long enough to move as you walk and short enough to clear a staircase.

Warm by lunch

Off and folded small, over a chair back or into a bag.

Air conditioning on

Back on indoors, and light enough to wear under a coat later.

Knit light, lined to fall

Fiber and care come from each garment’s own label; most of the knits take a cool, gentle wash.

Grey knit fabric laid on a white table

The knits

Cotton, cotton blends and fine wool blends, in a gauge that folds small.

The skirts

Lighter fabrics are lined so they fall rather than cling; heavier weaves hang on their own.

Flat band
A side or back zipper with a hook above it.
Soft elastic
Sits at the natural waist, no closure.
